FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- Back
- What is hair transplantation?
- Hair transplantation is a minor surgical procedure that moves permanently growing hair from the back and sides of the scalp to the bald and thinning areas.
- Who qualifies?
- Most healthy men and women qualify for hair transplant surgery.
- Are results permanent?
- Yes, because the transplanted hair is not subject to the balding process. Even after relocation, it continues to grow for the rest of your life.
- Is the procedure painful?
- The discomfort associated with hair transplant surgery is minimal. The procedure is performed using local anesthetic only. Our patients comment that the technique causes less discomfort than a visit to the dentist.
- How long will it take to recover from the surgery?
- All hair transplant surgery is performed on an outpatient basis. Most patients return to their normal routine in one or two days, depending on the patient's occupation and activity level.
- How long will it take for the new hair to grow?
- New hair begins to grow about 10 to 12 weeks after the procedure. It continues to grow at the normal rate of approximately one-half inch per month.
- Is hair transplant surgery expensive?
- Hair transplant surgery is an investment that lasts a lifetime and by comparison costs less than drugs and hair pieces over the long term. Payment links are available.
- Are laser hair transplants available?
- Laser hair transplantation has been used with some success. To date, results with lasers have been shown to be inferior to those obtained with traditional non-laser hair transplant surgery. For this reason, they are not in common use.
